Astral Projection Lesson 3rd Your 5 Bodies

Astral Projection Lesson 3rd Your 5 Bodies Image
How many bodies have we got? Good question, I asked myself the same question when I started having out-of-body experiences. I would leave my body and turn to look at my physical body but see myself in a different position, or even a different place to where I should be. Why was that? I investigated and researched and realized that I was seeing different bodies, which were still 'me'.... I even experienced myself as a point of consciousness. Confused? Yes it does sound a bit confusing. So here I want to explain the difference between the different bodies that you may see or experience.

Getting to know these bodies will also help you as it has helped me, so I've included some techniques to help you get in touch with each of your 5 'bodies'.

YOU ARE MUCH MORE THAN YOUR PHYSICAL BODY, so much more, if only you could see with your physical eyes who you really are, you would be astonished. You are actually a series of overlapping, multidimensional "bodies". These bodies are described differently in different traditions, but essential amount to 5 different layers: The Physical, Etheric, Astral, Mental and Spiritual. Let's take a look at these core elements of YOU, and how they effects your experience in both your physical life and your astral travels.

1. THE PHYSICAL BODY

Your physical body is the most dense of all, vibrationally speaking. Of course we know this because we can see and touch it. Thus the physical body also has the slowest and lowest vibration.

For most of us, doing an exercise to 'get in touch with' our physical bodies isn't necessary. Most of us already walk, talk, see, smell, hear and touch. But what we generally don't do is get in touch with the neurological experience of the physical body. So here's something you can do to connect with your physical body in a way that will re-awaken your awareness of the nature of this, most dense of the 5 bodies.

"Building Muscle Memory"

Can you remember what it was like to learn how to ride a bike? How about learning to drive a car, catch a ball, jump rope? These are all activities that require the brain to build new neural wiring so that the muscles and nerves know what to do and when to do it. So when you first got on that two-wheeler, you probably teetered and fell a few times before your physical body (your brain and your and muscles) could figure out how to balance, pedal and steer - all at the same time. With practice, you built those neural 'networks' and then could stay up on two wheels.

Every time you learn a new physical skill, you get back in touch with your physical body in a kind of primal way. These physical skills (the new ones and the one's you've mastered) are often called 'motor skills'. Now, if you're old enough to read this, you've probably already built and refined the majority of the motor skills you'll need through life. But here's a fun little experiment you can do to remember what it feels like when your physical body is learning something new.

"The 'Mork from Ork' Muscle Challenge"

Do you remember that old TV show with Robin Williams? The one about the alien living on earth? He used to have a hand signal that became popular with school kids. He'd hold his hand up in something similar to a Vulcan greeting ('a la Star Trek'). In this gesture, the fingers are straight and formed into a 'V' by creating a space between the middle and ring fingers.

Now, if you learned this when you were young, you've already build the physical wiring and muscular response to do this with ease. BUT, have you ever tried to switch the fingers so that they become more like the letter 'W', with the middle and ring fingers next to each other and the pinkies and pointer separated? Go ahead and try it. See if you can alternate between 'V' and 'W' while keeping all fingers in alignment. Not too easy, is it? But if you practice long enough, you'll actually train your physical body - adding specific wiring to your physical brain - to do this easily, without even thinking.

Learning to astral project consciously is basically about programming yourself, just like you did when you learned to ride a bike. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO PLUG INTO YOUR OBE ABILITIES, PLUG IN YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS PLUG, FLICK THE SWITCH AND HEY PRESTO YOURE THERE!

2. THE ETHERIC BODY

The etheric body isn't often talked about in day-to-day life or even in the world of astral projection. But by getting in touch with your etheric body, you'll have a better ability to deal with and understand some of the unusual phenomenon that can happen during your astral projection sequence.

Arthur Powell and Max Heindel described the etheric "double" as a medium between the astral and physical realms. Ether is the 'vital force' that physical forms need to exist on the Earth. So when you see your physical body asleep you are not technically speaking in the astral but in a kind of buffer zone that links the astral with the physical.

Your etheric body always remains close to your physical body. There's no consistent agreement about the function of the etheric body, but one that makes a lot of sense is that it serves as a kind of recharge battery and protective sheathing for the physical while your astral body (discussed below) is away. Astral Projection expert Ann Moss explains the Etheric Body's function this way:

"When the [physical] body goes to sleep, the etheric expands, the chakras open, and we receive energy and restore our depleted supply. This is why it is also referred to as the vitality sheath or health body."

Being aware of this body can help so much during astral projection with enough practice you may even automatically wake up focused in this body ready to project. SO TAKE TIME TO DO THIS EXERCISE, TAKE TIME TO WORK WITH YOUR ENERGY, FEEL IT, SENSE IT, GET TO KNOW IT LIKE A FRIEND FOR IT TRULY IS.

Here's an exercise to help you sense your etheric body

"The Brushing Hands Technique"

This technique comes from well-known author, teacher and long-time astral projector Robert Bruce. In his book, Astral Dynamics, he offers many techniques for activating your different energy bodies. By using these regularly, you actually increase the bioelectric activity of these bodies. This exercise is a particularly effective way of actually sensing your etheric body.

Sit comfortably and place one hand on a table or your lap, palm up.

With the other hand, stroke the surface of you hand from wrist to finger tips a few times.

The trick here is to memorize the sensations in the receiving hand while you are doing this exercise..

After about 20 seconds, stop and try to 'feel' the same sensations with your mind alone. Focus your attention totally on what you are doing.

Do this for about a minute or so, until you can really sense the same, stroking feeling.

You might also feel tingling, pressure or even buzzing in your hand. When you do, you know you've activated your etheric body in your hand area. Well done! You're well on the way.

You can continue by doing the same exercise on the other hand, and then the bottoms of your feet.

3. THE ASTRAL BODY

So what exactly is the astral body? This is the body that, not surprisingly, travels in the astral. Your astral body has the ability to be both entirely connected to your physical, and the capacity to exist at infinite distances from it. Your astral body can travel into the past, the future and even other dimensions. For the majority of us, in order for your astral body to remain away from your physical body, your physical body has to remain deeply relaxed and quite still. Have you ever had that sensation of falling that wakes you suddenly? This is usually a case of your astral body returning quickly to the physical. It can be caused by anything from a fly tickling your nose to a sudden muscle spasm.

In the astral body you can fly like a bird, dip and dive, YOU CAN CRUISE THE AIRWAYS ENJOYING THE VIEW OR YOU CAN TRAVEL FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT.. BREATHTAKING!

You can visit the past and future, you can consult the Akashic Records just like the British Intuitive, Dion Fortune, who was born in 1890. She used astral projection to read Akashic Records. She claimed to be able to operate consciously on the etheric and astral planes and project her consciousness at will

In Lesson 5 I'll be teaching you three powerful techniques to help you begin your conscious astral travels. But in the mean time, here's a little exercise that will help you to begin to 'sense' your astral body; expanding your Astral Body. Again, take time to do this exercise, commitment is essential to Astral Projection success.

Do you remember that Pink Floyd song called 'Comfortably Numb'? Singer/Songwriter Roger Waters may have been talking about inner angst and cultural alienation, but there's one line that's always made me think of a common, astral experience - expansion.

Astral expansion happens naturally for some people. In fact, you can use it as a way to separate from your physical body. But for this exercise, that's not necessary. Here's what you'll want to do:

Sit comfortably in a place where you won't be disturbed.

Using whichever method you prefer, take yourself into a mild, meditative state.

Begin to imagine your astral body expanding to the very edges of your physical one.

As you continue this visualization, start seeing your astral body expand beyond the edges of your physical body.

Now you want to try to focus on any sensations you might be having. For example, some people feel suddenly 'fat' or swollen. Sometimes the edges of the astral body can feel like they're slightly buzzy or even numb.

Stay with this sensation and observe it in as much detail as you can, until you feel like you've memorized it.

When you're ready, bring yourself back to normal, waking consciousness.

You can practice this as often as you like and please do, the more you practice the more you are programming yourself to leave your body. You can do it first thing in the morning or at night before you go to bed, or ANY time that's convenient. The more you practice this exercise, the more you'll recognize the feeling of your astral body. This will help you tremendously when you're ready to begin your astral journeys.

4. THE MENTAL BODY

Have you ever heard of 'remote viewing', basically it is the practice of seeking impressions about a distant or unseen target using paranormal means, e.g. extra-sensory perception (ESP) or sensing with your mind. Your mental body is the part of you that's capable of remote viewing. During a mental body projection, there's none of the weird stuff, distortions etc, that you might find during an astral projection. Nor is there any sense of actually 'traveling' from point A to point B. You simply arrive with your mind. When the mental body journeys, it experiences no "thought litter" the way the astral body can. You do not experience emotion so there is a lot less interference. The mental body transcends both space and time. It can be called a pure state of awareness. Advanced remote viewers, using their mental body, are able to communicate telepathically.

Traveling in the Mental Body is like nothing in this world, you may have experiences that you can't put into words because they are truly too incredible for words. IMAGINE EXPERIENCING SOMETHING BEYOND WORDS, YOU CARRY IT WITH YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

"Strengthening your Mental Body "Muscles"

The best way to build awareness of your mental body is by developing the ability to maintain intense focus on a single subject or object while in a deep state of relaxation. With this 2-part exercise, you'll learn how to build your capacity for detailed awareness and then transfer that power, in a remote viewing-like fashion, during meditation.

"The Focused Awareness Technique Part I"

In part one of this exercise, choose an object that you'll be able to examine in great detail. Something in your home or garage, or a family member's home, is best. Ideally, it should be visually interesting, with some different parts, colors, shapes or details.

Once you've decided on your 'target', spend about 10 minutes examining it with as much focused concentration as possible. If you need to take a short break in the middle of this, that's fine. The important thing is to build focus and devote enough time to studying the characteristics of the object so that you can memorize them.

"The Focused Awareness Technique Part II"

In a separate space and time, you'll go into a meditative state. Once you're in that state, begin to conjure up the object you had studied. Again, go over it in as great of detail as possible. Try to remember it's exact feel, shape, color and parts. If it was something you held, try to remember its weight and texture in your hands. Do this for about 5-10 minutes and then rest, or come out of your meditation.

You can do this several different times with different objects - or with the same object. With practice, your ability to experience the object as if you were actually seeing and holding it will become so strong that it will seem real. This experience will give you a clear understanding of the nature of the Mind Body.

5. THE SPIRITUAL BODY

The spiritual body has been described as A GLOBE OF LIVING LIGHT, PULSATING AND RADIATING, SENSITIVE TO ALL IMPRESSIONS FROM ALL WORLDS. Quite incredible, not even close to the astral body, it is so totally different. Reaching it, I have to admit, is not easy, but it is of course something to work towards.

Your spiritual body is the deepest, most expansive and least tangible of all. This is the part of you that is actually one with all that is. Some people call this God, others call it the Universal Mind, others, the Infinite. Whatever you call it, your spiritual body is the direct link between this and the 'you' you experience in your waking, sleeping and astral life. To connect with and sense your spiritual body is surprisingly simple. It's simple, but for most people, it's not easy at all. Why? Because to connect with your spiritual body requires you to experience the 'spaciousness' of pure consciousness. And this is done through the ability to be 100% focused in the present moment. It requires a movement of your consciousness beyond thought entirely and into the silent space between thoughts.

See? Simple, but not easy.

"The Spacious Breath"

Here's an exercise that will give you a taste of the sensation of spaciousness. Don't worry about the thoughts flooding in - this is normal. Just stay with the steps below and you really will have some feeling of this spcaiousness.

Sit comfortably in a place where you won't be disturbed.

Bring yourself into a light, meditative state, in whichever way you prefer.

Bring your attention to the breath.

Inhale to a slow, 4-count. Hold for 2-3 seconds, then exhale at the same, 4-count pace.

At the end of your exhalation, gently but quickly force any remaining air out of your lungs.

Now, in this moment of total emptiness, just BE. Invite spaciousness just for this empty moment before you take the next inhalation.

Continue this for 5 or 10 minutes, or however long you like. As you practice this regularly, what you'll find is that you'll be able to transfer that 'spaciousness of empty mind' from the breathing technique to your daily life.

In the next lesson we are moving on to a very important subject and one which I receive an incredible amount of emails about. What are the biggest blocks people face when learning how to astral project?

We have so far talked a lot about astral projection, so much so that you may want to get started right away, if you don't want to wait you can try Explorations Beyond the Body today.

The Nature Of Our Way

The Nature Of Our Way Cover
As often as possible, hold the rites in forests, by the seashore, on deserted mountaintops or near tranquil lakes. If this is impossible, a garden or some chamber shall suffice, if it is readied with fumes of flowers.

Seek out wisdom in books, rare manuscripts and cryptic poems if you will, but seek it out also in simple stones and fragile herbs and in the cries of wild birds. Listen to the whisperings of the wind and the roar of water if you would discover magick, for it is here that the old secrets are preserved.

Books contain words; trees contain energies and wisdom books ne'er dreamt of.

Ever remember that the Old Ways are constantly revealing themselves. Therefore be as the river willow that bends and sways with the wind. That which remains changeless shall outlive its spirit, but that which evolves and grows will shine for centuries.

There can be no monopoly on wisdom. Therefore share what you will of our ways with others who seek them, but hide mystic lore from the eyes of those who would destroy, for to do otherwise increases their destruction.

Mock not the rituals or spells of another, for who can say yours are greater in power or wisdom?

Ensure that your actions are honorable, for all that you do shall return to you three-fold, good or bane.

Be wary of one who would dominate you, who would control and manipulate your workings and reverences. True reverence for the Goddess and God occurs within. Look with suspicion on any who would twist worship from you for their own gain and glory, but welcome those priestesses and priests who are suffused with love.

Honor all living things, for we are of the bird, the fish, the bee. Destroy not life save it be to preserve your own.

And this is the nature of our way.

BEFORE TIME WAS

Before time was, there was The One; The One was all, and all was The One.

And the vast expanse known as the universe was The One, all-wise, all-pervading, all-powerful, eternally changing.

And space moved. The One molded energy into twin forms, equal but opposite, fashioning the Goddess and God from The One and of The One.

The Goddess and God stretched and gave thanks to The One, but darkness surrounded them. They were alone, solitary save for The One.

So They formed energy into gasses and gasses into suns and planets and moons; They sprinkled the universe with whirling globes and so all was given shape by the hands of the Goddess and God.

Light arose and the sky was illuminated by a billion suns. And the Goddess and God, satisfied by their works, rejoiced and loved, and were one.

From their union sprang the seeds of all life, and of the human race, so that we might achieve incarnation upon the Earth.

The Goddess chose the Moon as Her symbol, and the God the Sun as His symbol, to remind the inhabitants of Earth of their fashioners.

All are born, live, die and are reborn beneath the Sun and Moon; all things come to pass there under, and all occurs with the blessings of The One, as has been the way of existence before time was.

SONG OF THE GODDESS

I am the Great Mother, worshipped by all creation and existent prior to their consciousness. I am the primal female force, boundless and eternal.

I am the chaste Goddess of the Moon, the Lady of all magick. The winds and moving leaves sing my name. I wear the crescent Moon upon my brow and my feet rest among the starry heavens. I am mysteries yet unsolved, a path newly set upon. I am a field untouched by the plow. Rejoice in me and know the fullness of youth.

I am the blessed Mother, the gracious Lady of the harvest. I am clothed with the deep, cool wonder of the Earth and the gold of the fields heavy with grain. By me the tides of the Earth are ruled; all things come to fruition according to my reason. I am refuge and healing. I am the life-giving Mother, wondrously fertile.

Worship me as the Crone, tender of the unbroken cycle of death and rebirth. I am the wheel, the shadow of the Moon. I rule the tides of women and men and give release and renewal to weary souls. Though the darkness of death is my domain, the joy of birth is my gift.

I am the Goddess of the Moon, the Earth, the Seas. My names and strengths are manifold. I pour forth magick and power, peace and wisdom. I am the eternal Maiden, Mother of all, and Crone of darkness, and I send you blessings of limitless love.

CALL OF THE GOD

I am the radiant King of the Heavens, flooding the Earth with warmth and encouraging the hidden seed of creation to burst forth into manifestation. I lift my shining spear to light the lives of all beings and daily pour forth my gold upon the Earth, putting to flight the powers of darkness.

I am the master of the beasts wild and free. I run with the swift stag and soar as a sacred falcon against the shimmering sky. The ancient woods and wild places emanate my powers, and the birds of the air sing of my sanctity.

I am also the last harvest, offering up grain and fruits beneath the sickle of time so that all may be nourished. For without planting there can be no harvest; without winter, no spring.

Worship me as the thousand-named Sun of creation, the spirit of the horned stag in the wild, the endless harvest. See in the yearly cycle of festivals my birth, death and rebirth - and know that such is the destiny of all creation.

I am the spark of life, the radiant Sun, the giver of peace and rest, and I send my rays of blessings to warm the hearts and strengthen the minds of all.

Your Magical Name

Your Magical Name Image

Why a Magical Name:

Ah, the magical name. So many people find Wicca and decide right off the bat that they’re going to name themselves Lady Such-and-Such or Lord Whatsis. Go to a Pagan event and you’ll meet more fifteen-year-old Lady Morganas than you can shake a stick at. And it’s virtually guaranteed that within about three months, Lady Morgana will decide her magical name, sometimes called a craft name, is really supposed to be Starfluffle or Moongypsy, and she’ll change it.

In fact, she’ll probably change it two to three times a year.

The Name-of-the-Month Club:

This odd phenomenon, known as the Name-of-the-Month Syndrome, happens most often because the person in question hasn’t taken the time to research and learn, which is crucial to finding the right magical name.

A magical name is unique to the practitioner, and there are several ways to find yours. When you find the right name, you’ll keep it for a long time. In some traditions, it‘s customary to wait until you‘ve studied a year and a day before claiming your magical name. Some Pagans have two magical names -- one which they use in public and one which is known only to the gods and members of the person’s coven.

Think Long-Range:

One method by which people sometimes find their magical name is to simply choose something they like. A problem with this method is that what we like on one day, we may find silly a year down the road. If you’re going to choose a name based on whether it sounds cool or not, stop and think about it. What is it about the name that appeals to you? Ten years from now, are still going to feel comfortable saying, “Hi, I‘m Fairypuddle,” when you meet a new person?

Names with Meaning:

Choose a name not only for its sound, but its attributes as well. For example, someone wishing to convey strength in their name might include “oak“ or “iron“ as part of their moniker. A person who is highly creative might select a name that reflects their art or craft. You may want to choose a name based rooted in folklore or mythology. Many people include the name of an animal that resonates with them. A cautionary note here: in the Pagan community, certain animals pop up all the time. You’ll meet two dozen Ravens and just as many Cats, but it’s unlikely you’ll encounter anyone calling himself Wombat or Penguin.

Names to Avoid:

Another bit of advice -- generally, the titles Lord and Lady are reserved for people who are elders or have a significant amount of leadership experience under their belt. To name oneself Lady So-and-So without any credentials is considered presumptuous by many Pagans. Likewise, in many traditions it’s seen as hubris to give oneself the name of a deity. You may want to choose a name that indicates your dedication to a god or goddess, but don’t co-opt their names. It’s just rude. If you're a dedicant to Apollo, don't call yourself Master Apollo, call yourself something like Apollonius instead.

Using Your Birth Number:

Another popular method of finding a magical name is to choose one that corresponds with your birth number. To find your birth number, begin by adding the digits of your birth date.

If your birthday was September 1, 1966, you would start with the numbers 911966 = 9 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 6 = 32.

Now take those two numbers (3 and 2), and bring it down to a single digit: 3 + 2 = 5. That number -- in this case, 5 -- is your birth number.

Use the grid below to find a name that corresponds to the number 5, by calculating the sum of the corresponding letters.

1 = A, J, S

2 = B, K, T

3 = C, L, U

4 = D, M, V

5 = E, N, W

6 = F, O, X

7 = G, P, Y

8 = H, Q, Z

9 = I, R

Let’s say you’ve decide you like the name Willow. Using the letters in “Willow” you would take the numbers 5 + 9 + 3 + 3 + 6 + 5 = 32. From there, 3 + 2 = 5. If the name you like doesn’t match your birth numbers, try some creative or alternate spellings to see what happens.

A Gift from the Gods:

In some cases, you may be fortunate enough to have your new name bestowed upon you by a god or goddess. In these instances, you may encounter someone in a dream or a vision who tells you, “Your name is Such-and-such.” While you may choose to add to it or come up with a variation on it later, if this happens to you, accept the name as the gift that it is.

Whatever method you end up using, think carefully before you finalize your new name. While it’s okay to change your name later on as you evolve spiritually, changing your name every few weeks or every time you see a new episode of “Charmed” is probably not the best course of action. Find the name that is right for you -- and when it IS the right one, you will know.

Invoking And Evoking

Invoking And Evoking Cover
What's the difference, and how do I do it? (As always, this is based on personal opinion)

One of the most confusing things that beginners deal with, apart from circle casting, is Invoking and Evoking. First of all, it may seem that there is little difference between the two, or maybe little point in doing it. But this is an important part of ritual, and is done quite frequently.

What is Invoking, and what is Evoking?

Evoking is when you ask a Deity, elemental, etc. to be present in the circle. Invoking is when you invite the Deity, etc. 'into' yourself, and for a time you 'become' that Deity.

Why do it?

You invoke or evoke to ask the Deity(s) to attend your ritual. When done well, a Deity will actually be present in your circle: you will be able to communicate with them, and they will be able to help you with whatever you have planned. (This is one reason that it is so very important to be clear in your intentions, and to have thought them out beforehand- the Deities are present, they are inside your circle, and they can see you).

Which one is best to do?

If you are a beginner, I would highly recommend sticking to evoking. For one, personally I find it easier to do. For second, it is more objective, and easier to figure out if you did it right. Third, being more objective, it's harder to fool yourself into believing you did it properly if you didn't. Finally, invoking can be especially difficult if you are conducting ritual alone.

How do I know which Deity to invoke?

Only one word of advice here: keep it simple. As a beginner, please don't invoke the Morrigan, Loki, Kali, etc. etc. etc. Not that I'm saying these are 'evil' Gods, it's just that you will probably find it more than you can handle. If you want a death Goddess, try Persephone. If you want success in battle, try Ares or Victoria, if you want feminine power, try Diana. If you want a trickster, try Mercury. There's no need to climb a mountain to see over the molehill.

So, how do I do it?

Cleanse your space, cast your circle, call your element(als). Generally, calling the Goddess is done in a 'Goddess position': arms and legs outstretched. Calling the God is done in a 'God position': feet together, with arms crossed across the chest (no, you don't have to do it that way). In doing the actual calling, you may or may not have something written down, or you might decide to adlib something; whatever suits you is fine. While you are reciting the call, visualize in your mind how that Deity looks to you. Are they short or tall,
blonde, brunette, or redhead? Are they strong willed, poetic, young or old? How does their 'soul' look to you, what color is their aura, what kind of personality do they have, how do they make you feel? Send out a call to this image, asking them to come and join your ritual. The hard part is learning how to call with your mind while you're reciting a spoken call. :)

Should I always cast a circle before Calling a Deity?

I would say definately yes. There's nothing really wrong with calling on a familiar Deity at any time. However, I would advise against calling a Deity you don't know well outside your circle.

Will this give me cool powers, like 'Sabrina'?

No.

How do I know if I've done it properly?

If you've evoked the Deity, and they do decide to come, you will probably notice it immediately. The air becomes electric, you may notice a 'presence' in the room, the temperature may change. Heck, they may decide to give you a hug. :)

Can I invoke/evoke elementals?

Well, technically, any time you call the elements, or the elementals, you are evoking them. I really wouldn't advise invoking any elemental. Stick with evoking for them.

How do I 'unevoke' a Deity?

Simple, thank them for coming, and mean it. Say you're glad they came, but now ritual is over, and thank you so much for stopping by. Just be respectful.
