How To Write A Spell

How To Write A Spell Image
If you're going to write a spell, it should be specific to you and very individual. Even if following a traditional spell, it should be tailored to your specific needs to be the most effective for you. Understanding the basics of spell construction will enable you to formulate your own specific, effective spells for any purpose you choose.

1. State your intention. Decide on the result you want to accomplish with the spell.

2. Time your spell. Timing when casting spells can be important. The Moon is important in witchcraft, and therefore has a profound influence upon us. It is very important to choose the right moon phase for your spell; magical workings for gain, increase or bringing things to you, should be initiated when the moon is waxing (from new to full); when the moon is waning (from full to dark), then its time for magical workings of decrease or sending away. The highest energy occurs at the full moon, and therefore this is the most powerful time for magical workings. The new moon is the next most powerful time for magic.

3. Work with the seasons. There is a natural time for starting things (a planting time), for maturing things (a growing time), for reaping things (a harvest time) and, of course, a time for rest and planning.

4.Gather your tools. Make sure that you have all the tools that you need for casting the spell. Your tools must have no inherent magic. They are to help you create a mood. You also have to clean your tools. Don't forget to cleanse and bless (consecrate) your tools before you begin casting your spell.

5.Understand magic. Remember that magic is the manipulation of energy, a thought is a form of energy and a visualization is an even stronger form of energy. Your visualization can be a method used to intensify further and direct your will. Your visualization can be the method by which you control the magical energy you have produced. You must know what you want. You must see it. You must feel the high energy flow. You must direct it.

6.Write your spoken words. For making your words and thoughts stronger you can write your spell into a rhyme to be spoken aloud; this makes it easier to remember your spell, you can also chant your spell to raise energy.

7.Remember the Threefold Law. Everything that you want to reach with this spell comes back 3 times, good or wrong.

Tips

* Before you write your final version of your spell, you can write on a note what you want to reach with your spell, and what you are needing.
* Don't forget to cast a circle before doing any spell, for you are totally vulnerable for elementals when casting higher powers of other beings.
* Meditation is the key to relaxation, and being completely relaxed allows energy to flow freely throughout your body. You should learn how to clear your mind and focus with whats on hand.

How To Do Witchcraft

How To Do Witchcraft Image
Witchcraft, a way of life

It must be understood that Wicca, Paganism and Witchcraft are clearly spiritual belief systems and a way of life. Believers in Witchcraft generally work in covens and each coven develops its own system of worship, rituals and practice in Witchcraft based on the experience and beliefs of the members. You can practice witchcraft on your own without joining any coven. Even covens are not large gatherings. Sometimes a coven exceeding a membership of 13 is considered too large and is further split into smaller groups or hives. This freedom obviously allows each individual to practice the witchcraft in his own way without subscribing to any rigid dogma or regime.

There are, therefore, no hard and fast rules about how to do witchcraft.

The first step towards learning how to do witchcraft is to meet people, read books and literature on witchcraft. This would enable you to understand the fundamentals of witchcraft as a religion.

The next step is to formulate your own independent opinion about witchcraft by listening to your intuition or gut feeling. If you feel uneasy with any group or belief system, immediately run away from it.

Individual Approach

The magic of witchcraft is felt by each individual in a different manner. To the blessed ones, the charge comes in a different manner. It is a moment when we feel the magic of the universe for the first time coursing through us. You experience the reality not its shadow.

When you find that there are striking similarities between what you already believe and what you find here, your confidence in your intuitive awareness shall be strengthened and you will easily communicate with others and understand them better. You need to take the following steps to learn more about how to do witchcraft’.

As already stated above, try to read every thing pertaining to witchcraft that you lay your hands upon. Your views about Wicca and Witchcraft will become clearer and stronger. When you have learnt as much as you can about the basic beliefs and tenets of witchcraft, you will be able to decide if the old ways are right for you.

Your own Book of Shadows

While you are studying witchcraft, you will begin to form associations and hopefully find some synergies within yourself. Keep a daily diary or a journal and keep noting your experiences. Write down why you think witchcraft is the right way of life for you. What does being a witch mean to you? What do you expect to achieve from this knowledge? Do you have any apprehensions about following this path? How do you feel about God and Goddess? What do you feel about the divine?

You should try to be absolutely honest in expressing your beliefs and ideas since the journal is your private book and no body is going to read it. The more you write the clearer you will become about your dreams. This journal will eventually evolve into your own Book of Shadows and assist you in defining and designing your own dedication and self-initiation ritual. This should be absolutely your own ritual. Design it the way you want to and in a way that will be most meaningful to you by following your own impulses. A dedication ritual implies exactly what it sounds to you like. You are dedicating yourself to the Witchcraft and taking a decision to live life closer to God and Nature. You are entering into a commitment to yourself and the Divine.
Follow your Instincts

There are no right or wrong questions or answers. Self questioning does not mean testing yourself, but looking within and evolving your own personal philosophy about witchcraft. This is the beauty of this religion. You are your own guide. You do not have to blindly or even strictly follow into the footsteps of others. Witchcraft is about self evolution. Your own journal will help you define and clarify your understanding of this path.

Most importantly you should listen to your inner voice which is the best counsel and will never distract you. If you find something that you read or hear is not right for you, leave it altogether.

Consecration Of Tools

Consecration Of Tools Cover
Light the candles. Set the incense smoking. Cast the Circle of Stones. Place the tool on the pentacle, or a plate of salt. Touch it with the point of your athame (or your projective hand) and say:

I consecrate you, O Athame of steel(or wand of wood, etc.) to cleanse and purify you to serve me within the Circle of Stones. In the names of the Mother Goddess and Father God, you are consecrated.

Send projective energy into the tool, cleansing it of all negativity and past associations. Now pick it up and sprinkle with salt, pass it through the incense smoke, through the candle flame and sprinkle with water, calling upon the Spirits of the Stones to consecrate it.

Then hold the tool to the sky, saying:

I charge you by the Old Ones: By the omnipotent Goddess and God: By the virtues of the Sun, Moon and Stars: By the powers of the Earth, Air, Fire and Water, that I shall obtain all that I desire through you. Charge this by your power, Old Ones!

The tool should immediately be put to use to strengthen and bind the consecration. For example, the athame can be used to consecrate another tool; a wand to invoke the Goddess; the pentacle to act as a resting place for a tool during its consecration.

Fire Blessing

Fire Blessing Cover
I will kindle this fire under the eyes of the Tuatha De Danann under the eyes of Brigit daughter of the Dagda, under the eyes of Aedh the bright one. Without fear, jealousy or malice of any kind to anyone under the sun, but with the light of the Goddess to protect me.

Goddess of the sun, kindle within me a fire of generosity and love to all:

To my friends, my kindred, my foes and kindle within me a fire of bravery, eloquence and generosity of truth, strength and wealth, of beauty, charm and grace, so that I may inspire with my words. May this fire be blessed in the eyes of the Ancient but ever-present Gods.

Ritual Of Self Blessing

Ritual Of Self Blessing Cover
This ritual of self-blessing has been around for many years - originally published by the Pagan Way. This version is taken from Amber Wolfe's "In the Shadow of the Shaman" because it is not as Goddess oriented.

This version can be used by anyone, regardless of religious principle, because it is easily adapted with the name of your own diety. The important thing is that you are calling on your highest spiritual force to witness your life/problems, and in calling attention to yourself, you are begining to take charge and deal with the problems. There is a very real, very deep power in this ritual, no matter how simply or elaborately it is performed, and it should never be performed in fun or for show. Use it whenever the need is great - any moon phase is permissible, although it was originally intended to be used at the waxing moon. It will embue the celebrant with a sense of calm connectedness and peace.

What follows is the text as Amber Wolfe has written it. Balance and blessings.

Ritual of Self-Blessing

You will need

- a small votive candle and holder (white is always good, but use color if you feel called to do that)
- an incense stick, cone, or herbs (such as sage or thyme) to burn
- a small container of water
- a small container of salt

I find that a sugar and creamer set works very well for this. These can be purchased quite reasonably and set aside just for this use.

This is a ritual which connects you to the deepest levels of healing. It also connects you to the four elements and their energies. In this way it is most helpful for dealing with the shamanic elemental energies of Nature.

The candle represents the element of Fire
The incense or herbs represent Air
The container of water is Water
The container of salt is Earth.

Beyond that, these elements reflect your own needs.

The element of Fire reflects your relationships, protection, ideas and achievements.

The element of Air reflects your creativity, spirituality, inspiration and philosophies.

The element of Water reflects your emotions, intuition, dream states, psychic gifts, and healing balance.

The element of Earth reflects your practicality, knowledge, sacred wisdom, and growth.

Find a quiet time and place where you will not be disturbed. You may make this as ceremonial or as informal as you choose.

Light the incense and take a few moments to consider the element of Air. Consider the gifts that Air reflects in you.

Light the candle and take a few moments to consider the element of Fire. Consider the gifts that Fire reflects in you.

Take a few moments to consider the element of water and how it reflects in you.

Take a few moments to consider the element of Earth and how it reflects in you.

Very gently, pour the water into the container of salt. If you are using herbs as an incense, you may sprinkle a few in the water and salt mixture.

Stir the salt and water with your fingers. Consider the blending of elements that creates life itself. Consider the balance of elements and their attributes in your life. Take a few moments to do this.

Facing the candle, dip your fingers in the water mixture and touch your forehead (3rd eye area).

Say: "Bless me Mother, for I am your child." (The original was written for the Goddess as Mother. Another diety name can be substituted here, or simply say "Spirit.")

Now dip your fingers in the water mixture and touch the area around your eyes carefully.

Say: "Bless my eyes that I may see you."
Dip again and touch your nose.
Say: "Bless my nose that I may breathe your essence."
Dip again and touch your ears.
Say: "Bless my ears that I may hear your wisdom."
Dip again and touch your mouth.
Say: "Bless my mouth that I may speak your name."
Dip again and touch your heart.
Say: "Bless my heart that I may feel your love."
Dip again and touch your lower abdomen.
Say: "Bless my cauldron center that I may create harmony."
Dip again and touch your feet.
Say: "Bless my feet that I may walk in balance."
Dip again and rub your hands together.
Say: "Bless my hands that I may share your healing in my work."

Take all the time you need to concentrate on the elements before you. Focus your attention on the candle and visualize healing light flowing into you. Feel strength emerging from deep inside yourself. Breathe deeply and capture that moment. Connect with the source of strength and healing.

When you feel you are finished, blow out the candle. I often save these candles just for this ritual of self-blessing. If I am extremely pressed for time, I simply light the candle and take a few moments to connect with the energy of the ritual.

It is good to leave the incense burning if you can. Air is a communicating element, and smoke is transformation. The incense carries the messages of healing and strength to Spirit. If you have used herbs, it is good to return the ashes to Nature. In this way, you
are grounding the energy, bringing the message and the transformation to earth. Make sure the ashes are cold; then place them at the roots of a tree or bush if possible. If not, place them in soil or sand.

The salt and water mixture can be used very effectively in several ways. You may wash your gemstones or other stones in this. Crystals love this, since their energy is so personally connected to yours.

You may save the mixture and dab a little on your third-eye area every day for a few days, as a reminder. You may pour the mixture into your bath for a gentle energizer. When the bathwater drains, visualize a connection between yourself and the energies of Mother Ocean. You may return the mixture to earth by pouring it on soil or sand. Remember, plants don't thrive in salt; so keep the mixture clear of plants. You may sprinkle the mixture throughout your house to seal in positive energies and protection.

How Does Magic Work

How Does Magic Work Image
Question: How Does Magic Work?

You keep talking about magic and spells. I don't get it, and I'm pretty smart. How do they actually work?
Answer:

That's a really good question, and one that may have a number of different answers, depending on which people you ask. First, there are many different types of magic -- natural magic, practical magic, high magic, ceremonial magic -- and each is a little bit varied from the others. Even when it comes to spell work, you'll find a number of opinions on the Hows and Whys of the process.

In natural magic, there is a theory that many natural objects -- rocks, roots, plants, animal bones, etc. -- have a connection within them to some part of the human experience. For example, a rose quartz is linked with love and matters of the heart, a piece of oak would take on the attributes of strength and sturdiness, and a sprig of sage is connected to wisdom and purification. In this form of magic, also called sympathetic magic, the link between items and their magical symbolism is referred to as the Doctrine of Signatures. Spellwork in natural magic is often carried out with no prayer or invocation to deities or gods. It is simply the natural attributes of the items involved in the spell that make the magic happen.

In some traditions of Wicca and Paganism, magic is the realm of the Divine. A practitioner may call upon his or her gods for intervention and assistance. For example, someone doing a spell working to repair their damaged love life might call upon Aphrodite for aid. A person moving into a new home could invoke Brighid or Freyja, goddesses of hearth and home, as part of a ritual.

There is also a school of thought that believes magic occurs only in accordance with one's will -- in other words, intent is everything. Some people in these traditions believe that the physical trappings of spell work -- candles, herbs, etc. -- are unimportant, because all that really matters is the strength of will to bring about results. If one focuses one's intent precisely enough, and manipulates the necessary energy, change will come about.

Regardless of how you believe magic actually works and whatever tradition you choose to embrace, understand that magic is a skill set that can be used in tandem with the mundane. While magic will not solve all of your problems (and probably shouldn’t be turned to as some sort of cure-all) it is certainly a useful tool when used sensibly.
